Booms Taxonomy 2

How is, in comparison to Oedipus, the underplayed role of Jocasta significant to the sexism in Greek society?

  1. I think that by using her as a major part of the poor actions Oedipus partakes in, Sophocles is degrading women. By using her in this role, Sophocles is saying that women can mess things up and can't hold power. He shows women's lack of power by placing power with Jocasta through the knowledge of Oedipus's actions. And not providing her with the ability to stop Oedipus from continuing his search. In this, Sophocles shows what little power women have.
